The Views are Better from Above
Our rides will treat you to a leisurely tour through rich mountain forests and alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers and teaming with wildlife. We’ll show you views that would shame a postcard.

Our staff of well mannered horses will fit all riders from the timid to the experienced horseperson.

Our 3 hour experience includes time for a view at Picnic Point (see picture below)
    • If you would like to customize a ride from an hour ride to all day just call us 208-263-TROT.

We schedule our rides to leave daily at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m, closed Tuesdays. Rides leave from Schweitzer Village (walk past the chairlifts). The average ride is 6 riders and a guide.

Driving Directions: from Sandpoint head north on Hwy. 95, at light, turn left on Schweitzer cut-off Road, go to the "T" and go right 1 mile on Boyer. Turn left at Schweitzer Mountain Road, cross the railroad tracks and head up the mountain (10 miles). Follow signs to the village, staying on the middle at both three way intersections.

We take credit cards, checks and cash at the barn.

Please reserve your ride at least a day in advance(more if on weeekends or holidays), we can not guarantee availability to walk-ins or same day, but will certainly try. To reserve, call 208-263-8768 (TROT) or call the Schweitzer Mountain Activity Center 208-255-3081.

What kind of experience do you need?

None is necessary. Some is good, lots is great. For 8 years we have taken all levels of experience out. We have several "kid friendly" horses. All our horses are rideable by adult first timers.
Our minimum age is 8.

We do require our riders to wear helmets, and safety is our main concern.
Before every ride we instruct our riders on the basics of riding, anyone that cares to ask can get more instruction as the ride goes on.

What should you wear?

Please wear long pants and some kind of boots or tennis shoe, sandals are not recommended.

There are packs on the saddles so please bring water, lite jacket or rain gear, snacks and cameras are welcome. Wear sun protection. Even on the hottest days our ride goes through lots of shade, when we do come out in the sunshine, we are rather high and there is a breeze.

Our destination provides a really great opportunity to discuss how this land was formed by glaciers.

The trail is varied, we cross streams, ride through shadey old growth forest, and come out to ride along open ridges where the views are incredible, many photo ops.

What you will see. We have seen wildlife; bears, deer, moose, eagles, red hawks and other birds. There is a great assortment of wildflowers all summer long and many edible berries including huckleberries, mid July through August.
